Outlook / Hotmail Setup

Works with @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, and @live.com addresses.
1

Enable two-step verification

App passwords require two-factor authentication. If you haven’t enabled it yet:Go to account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional and enable Two-step verification.
2

Create an app password

Once 2FA is enabled, scroll down to the App passwords section on the same page and click Create a new app password.Give it a label: Claude EmailMicrosoft generates a 16-character app password. Copy it.
3

Provide credentials to Claude

FieldValue
Emailyour-email@outlook.com
PasswordApp password (not your regular password)
IMAP Serveroutlook.office365.com
Port993 (SSL)
Do not use your regular Microsoft account password. It will not work — Microsoft blocks IMAP auth with main account passwords when 2FA is enabled. You must use an app-specific password.

Troubleshooting

The App passwords section only appears after two-step verification is enabled. It may take a few minutes to appear after enabling 2FA. Try refreshing the page.
Make sure you’re using outlook.office365.com on port 993 with SSL enabled. Older references to imap-mail.outlook.com are deprecated and may no longer work.
Work and school accounts (Microsoft 365 / Azure AD) have IMAP settings controlled by your organization’s admin. Personal @outlook.com accounts work out of the box. Contact your IT admin if you’re on a managed account.
